A screen is not one component. On modern iPhones the display, the digitiser that senses touch, and the front glass are bonded together, and on many models the assembly also carries components tied to Face ID. That means a repair on a recent flagship involves a very different part — and a very different cost — than the same repair on a six-year-old handset.

Three variables move the price more than anything else, and any repair shop quoting you seriously will ask about all three.

This is the single biggest driver. Newer Pro and Pro Max models use larger, more advanced displays and are more expensive to source than older or standard models. As a rule, the newer and larger the device, the higher the screen cost.

Older iPhones used LCD panels, which are cheaper to replace. From the iPhone X onward, most models use OLED, which delivers deeper blacks and better contrast but costs noticeably more as a replacement part. If you own an OLED iPhone, expect the repair to sit higher than an LCD-era device.

This is where quotes differ most between shops — and where you should ask the most questions. The same repair can be done with very different parts:

• Original pulled — a genuine panel recovered from another device. Closest to factory behaviour, highest cost, limited availability.
• Premium OLED (aftermarket) — high-grade third-party OLED with colour and brightness close to the original, at a lower price.

Price alone is a poor comparison. Before you commit, check that the quote includes these:

• Care taken to preserve Face ID where the original components are intact.
• No change to the agreed price once work has started.
